Mitsubishi is one of the most popular mini split brands. One of the reasons is Mitsubishi mini splits have a lot of functions and features that can be activated using their remote controller.

However, some of the symbols are not common among other mini splits. So, many owners want to understand what each of the symbols displayed on the remote controller means.

Thus, I studied the most complicated Mitsubishi mini split remote controller and list down all of the symbols, icons and modes with a quick explanation.

Econo Cool Symbol

When the Econo Cool symbol is displayed on the Mitsubishi mini split remote controller, the mini split performs swing operation vertically in various cycles to maintain comfort while saving energy.

Powerful Symbol

The Powerful symbol is displayed on the Mitsubishi mini split remote controller, the mini split operates at an exclusively high fan speed and the temperature is automatically set to the lowest to provide maximum cooling or heating for 15 minutes.

Smart Set Symbol

When the Smart Set symbol is displayed on the Mitsubishi mini split remote controller, the mini split changes all the settings on the remote controller to your saved setting. Press the Smart Set button again to revert back to the original setting.

Natural Flow Symbol

When the Natural Flow symbol on the Mitsubishi mini split remote controller is pressed, the mini split imitates a natural breeze of airflow to reduce the discomfort of being hit directly by constant, unnatural airflow. When the Fan symbol is displayed on the Mitsubishi mini split remote controller, it indicates that the mini split indoor fan blower is in operation. After Cool Mode or Dry Mode operation, it is recommended to operate in the Fan Mode to dry the inside of the mini split indoor unit.

Auto Fan Symbol

When the Auto Fan symbol is displayed on the Mitsubishi mini split remote controller, the mini split fan speed is adjusted automatically based on the difference between the room temperature and the set temperature.

Quiet Symbol

You can press the Fan button to change the fan speed to Quiet. When Quiet symbol is displayed on the Mitsubishi mini split remote controller, the mini split operates at an exclusively low fan speed for quiet operation.

Fan Speed Symbol

The Fan Speed symbol on the Mitsubishi mini split remote controller indicates the speed of the mini split indoor fan blower. Press the Fan button to change the fan speed to either low, medium, high or super high.

When the Low Battery symbol is displayed on the Mitsubishi mini split remote controller, it means that your remote controller battery is low and a replacement is needed.

The i-see symbol on the Mitsubishi mini split remote controller is a default control mode that enables the detection of occupant in the room. It is an energy-saving feature. The i-see mode must in active in order to use the Absence Detection mode and the INDIRECT/DIRECT function.

When the i-see function is active, you can press the Sensor button on the Mitsubishi mini split remote controller to activate the Absence Detection mode. Under this mode, the mini split automatically changes the operation to an energy-saving operation when it detects no occupant is present in the room.

Auto Vane Symbol

When the Auto Vane symbol is displayed on the Mitsubishi mini split remote controller, the mini split vane is set to the most efficient airflow direction depending on the operation mode. In Cool, Dry and Fan Mode, the vane is set to a horizontal position. In Heat Mode, the vane is set to a low position.

Auto Swing Symbol

When the Auto Swing symbol is displayed on the Mitsubishi mini split remote controller, the mini split vane moves up and down intermittently. If the symbol does not have the arrow, the mini split vane is in manual control. Press the Left Vane or Right Vane button to move the vane vertical position.

Wide Swing Symbol

When the Wide Swing symbol is displayed on the Mitsubishi mini split remote controller, the mini split vane moves left and right intermittently. If the symbol does not have the arrow, the mini split vane is in manual control. Press the Wide Vane button to move the vane horizontal position.

Auto Mode Symbol

When the Auto Mode symbol is displayed on the Mitsubishi mini split remote controller, the mini split selects the operation mode according to the difference between the room temperature and the set temperature. During AUTO mode, the unit changes mode (COOL↔HEAT) when the room temperature is about 4°F (2°C) away from the set temperature for more than 15 minutes.

Cool Mode Symbol

Cool Mode is the default operation mode of Mitsubishi mini splits. When the Cool Mode symbol is displayed on the Mitsubishi mini split remote controller, the mini split cools the room temperature based on the set temperature. Dehumidification is done during the cooling process.

Dry Mode Symbol

When the Dry Mode symbol is displayed on the Mitsubishi mini split remote controller, the mini split prioritises dehumidification over cooling. The room may be cooled slightly but temperature cannot be set during Dry Mode.

Heat Mode Symbol

When the Heat Mode symbol is displayed on the Mitsubishi mini split remote controller, the mini split heats the room temperature based on the set temperature. The Defrost function may active automatically depending on the outside air temperature.

Fan Mode Symbol

When the Fan Mode symbol is displayed on the Mitsubishi mini split remote controller, the mini split does not cool or heat the room. The compressor does not operate. Only the indoor fan blower operates to circulate the air in your room.

A bunch of time and date symbols on the Mitsubishi mini split remote controller is the Timer symbol. You can set a weekly on/off schedule or a daily schedule by pressing the timer button on the remote controller.
